Knight Center for Music Innovation, Frost School of Music – University of Miami

The world-renowned Frost Music School at the University of Miami selected Akustiks to oversee the acoustic and audio video design of a new performance and teaching facility, with the project’s centerpiece being the new Robert and Judi Prokop Newman Recital Hall that seats 200 and features a Marshall and Ogletree – Opus 18 digital organ. The hall’s expansive use of glass and rich wood finishes are sculpted to create an “ocean” of sound for soloists, chamber orchestras, and small ensembles. The project also includes the new high-tech Thomas D. Hormel Music Innovation Stage featuring the latest in audio and video technology to support an orchestra of approximately 80 musicians in rehearsal, full recording capabilities, and support of creative presentations by students and faculty. The Innovation Stage also features a forty-foot ‘Windowcast’ to the school’s outdoor music plaza that will enable the broadcast of concerts, recitals, or other ‘live’ performances to anyone walking by.
