The first phase of this project was an upgrade of the landmark 1920s theater to better serve the needs of both Eastman School ensembles and the Rochester Philharmonic orchestra, both of which regularly perform in the space. A new addition adjacent to the theater houses a 200-seat recital hall and large orchestral rehearsal room for students of the Eastman School. The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra officially inaugurated the shell in 2004.
